Emergence of World Englishes and Learners' Attitude Towards Learning English Online

The rapid growth of Internet users and availability of Internet in the developing as well as many developed countries for last decade has ignited  the necessity of eLearning as a life long process. Language learning is not a easy business for many reasons like psychological, socio-economical, demographical, political. But in the age of globalization and free market economy the world is integrated into a small village where the language of communication is undoubtedly English. English is not only the language of communication for global citizens but also a way to eradicate poverty and human empowerment. From this point of view the world has been looking for lingua franca for last three or four decades and finally World Englishes emerged as a suitable alternative.  The role of International English many researchers termed this  as World Englishes has grown rapidly as English is no longer a language of specific country like U.S, U.K, Australia, NewZealand or Canda. There are more English speaking people in the third world countries than anywhere in the world. Even though controversial India has the largest English speaking population of the world not the U.S or the EU. Information and Communication Technologies(ICTs) can change this scenario even dramatically if we can properly implement and integrate ICTs with education system of the developing and the least developing countries(LDCs). Developing and LDCs have enjoyed a tremendous growth in the mobile phone users for last decade or so. Mobile Learning (mLearning) can really boost this progress even further in educating economically backward people more economically and efficiently. A great example can be BBC Janala Project http://www.bbcjanala.com/ even though the success and effectiveness of this UKAID and EIA project under careful scrutiny! I'm very optimistic about this even though, £80 million(funded by UKAID) project may be turned into completely futile.

I've developed a small survey to measure learners' attitude towards learning English Online.

I really appreciate your participation and time. Hopefully it'll help to figure out learners' attitude towards English learning Online and help develop more effective methodology for teaching and learning English by integrating eLearning/Online/distance learning !!! Here is the link for survey!
